I think it is really cool to still be connected to high school buddies. Most of my best friends are the same fellas I hung out with from grade school and high school. I am actually best man in a wedding this weekend for my friend Steve who I played Little League with and co-best man for my friend Jon who was my roomate in college. It is a blessing to have good friends and watch all of our lives continue to grow in so many wonderful ways. Will Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138284532438773817.post-9424802255467451782008-09-02T20:35:00.000-04:002008-09-02T20:35:00.000-04:00Jeffrey what a complex but yet amazing young man y...Jeffrey what a complex but yet amazing young man you are!!! I can relate so well to some of the experiences you recalled (first diaper especially... and most recently first solo bath). I just hope that my memories grow with Hope and Grace like yours have grown with your children.

Peace,
WillWill Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138284532438773817.post-33972035774074254322008-07-27T03:29:00.000-04:002008-07-27T03:29:00.000-04:00Hey Jeff-I enjoyed the poem you chose to end your ...Hey Jeff-
I enjoyed the poem you chose to end your post. As a teacher myself (and a dean of students) I find that it is so important to forgive others, particularly growing kids who may be developing their sense of right and wrong and need loving guidance to learn from their mistakes.

FYI- and this maybe a guy thing... I am jealous of your run on the beach. While I am not a runner myself (it takes a toll on my knees), I loved my 5/7 day a week gym routine in my pre-monoamniotic twins life. Since the girls have come home, I have only been to the gym twice in the past month- hence feeling a bit out of shape these days. I did get to play baseball with two of my best friends this morning and counted this as such a huge blessing. As I told Jeni later this afternoon, in a brief quiet moment without the joyful squawking of the girls, "dudes need to be active." I am hoping that as the girls grow, I can get into an active work out routine once again, as, perhaps like you, I find it to be such a peaceful and reflective time. That being said, however, there is perhaps nothing more joyous than being able to feed my daughters bottles while we sit on the couch (I look forward to the day they are big enough to ride in the bike carrier behind their dad)!

Enjoy your time in Florida and have a safe trip back to Cleveland. FYI- the Indians are my favorite American League team (I got hooked on them after being at the filming of "Major League").

Take care,
WillWill Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138284532438773817.post-81152798231001854382008-07-26T01:48:00.000-04:002008-07-26T01:48:00.000-04:00Jeff-First off, props for good writing... you cert...Jeff-
First off, props for good writing... you certainly make your readers feel like they are right there with you. This is a great story... it made me laugh for sure. What I really enjoyed is your reaction to the whole situation- not losing your cool and your ability to laugh at the whole escapade afterwards. Even your blog title, "Dude, Where's My Car" made me think back to the dreadfully dumb Ashton Kutcher film from years ago.

It is so funny how dealing with material things seems so inconsequential once you realize that dealing with people is what's really important. Your reaction mirrored my reaction to the basement flooding, particularly the second time. The whole saga of "our cursed basement" like the lost car, is comedic when you think about it in the right context. I'm not saying that unfortunate snafus like these don't produce unneeded stress and aggravation (I'm still dealing with some of that with the detail paperwork myself, too), but at the same time, I take a great deal of pride for not acting like Steve Martin did when he lost his car in the movie "Plains Trains and Automobiles," and rather, being able to laugh a bit at the whole comedic nature of life at times. When I say my prayers, do we ever pray for the car, or the carpet in the basement, or the warped entertainment center? Of course not- they are inanimate objects! We pray for people and it is people who count.

Thanks for sharing your story- I agree there are so many similarities between our two families!

Cheers,
WillWill Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138284532438773817.post-16407701860554809622008-07-25T01:35:00.000-04:002008-07-25T01:35:00.000-04:00I LOVE the story! I have always been rooted in Milwaukee, and henceforth, a lot of our friends are from the Milwaukee area and are high school friends of mine and their spouses. I was the 5 and 10 year reunion chairperson for my school and I appreciate the excitement you have for your reunion as well as the scariness that your wife might have (Jeni was in the same boat).

Thanks again for posting and take care,

WIllWill Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138284532438773817.post-53313638974819799692008-07-24T01:17:00.000-04:002008-07-24T01:17:00.000-04:00Hey Jeff-I enjoyed your post. As a "Type A" person, I enjoy routine and having plans in place for things. With the NICU stay with Hope and Grace, I really learned how important it is to take the moment God give us and live within that moment. This has helped me appreciate numerous simple blessings within my day and helped me realize what is most important.

It is really cool to see another dad blogging. It has been fun connecting with your family through Laurie's blog and now through yours.

Cheers,
WillWill Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420420805633633628noreply@blogger.com
